“More-ish plus plus” – Campbell Mattinson

This 2022 Heathcote Estate Primal Shiraz is a new release made from three separate batches from various blocks of Heathcote Estate’s vineyard. Preservative-free and certified organic, this is an impressive Heathcote Shiraz made to be enjoyed in its youth. 

With the typical intense deep purple colour the region is famous for, the 2022 Heathcote Estate Primal Shiraz is fresh and intensely fruity with blackberry, boysenberry, plum and a hint of spice and pepper on the nose. The palate is big and juicy with loads of silky tannins and crunchy black fruit. Intense and long, while retaining lovely balance, this is Shiraz of wide appeal. 

“The colour of this. The vibrance of youth is on full display here, all purple, dark and glowing, and it sets the tone for the wine to come. Woodsy spice, sweet plums, a bit of crunch, a lot of fresh fruit. More-ish plus plus. Sandalwood notes here too. Clove-like inflections. A positive dryness to the finish. But all the while, eager fruit. One sip and you just want to keep on drinking this.
